- Went to a wedding this past weekend for my bro’s best friend with my fam. Bro was the best man and he gave a surprisingly sweet speech about being glad that they all had the opportunity to grow up together and will continue to do so. That’s not the biggest story to come out of this wedding, however. In quite possibly the most awkward interaction in my entire life, the other guests (two sets of parents and their respective son and daughter – both about 20 yrs old) started talking about how another guest (an older woman) cornered both kids and lectured them on BJs. As in Bill Clintons. As in *WTF!* Luckily, my mom had had a cocktail at cocktail hour and was pretty tipped at that point. However, it.kept.going. Beyond mortifying. Suburban soccer moms. Who knew. Also, I got caught getting down. Oops.

- I’ve been feeling generally pretty good about my marathon training. Last week I felt on top of the world after a 6-miler; despite being drenched in sweat, I felt alive and energized. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the next few runs were pretty brutal. I felt totally derailed and unfocused. I ran with JILY not long ago and was telling her that this time around, my goal with the marathon was to stay focused, to stay mentally sharp. The first time, I was so scared of the race that I had trouble staying with the process. I sabotaged myself on numerous occasions. This time around, I’m determined to finish each day proud of what I’ve accomplished. I’m determined to maintain my focus on each day’s run, not the finish line. Luckily, yesterday’s 8-miler was a lot better than I could have anticipated. I was dreading the run because I felt deflated. Despite technological issues (I realized my shuffle was dead halfway out the door), I ran a good run. On top of that, I realized that I have been running consistently at a 9:30/mi pace, which is a full 30 seconds faster than I’ve ever trained at, as well as a minute faster than the pace at which I ran my first marathon. While my official goal is to finish the marathon in under 5 hours, my unofficial goal is to run with a pace of less than 10min/mile.
- It’s beautiful outside, so I’m going to go for a walk. And buy a scone. Word.
